300th update!
Yesterday was my 300th update!
Whoah!
In celebration of this milestone I am posting one of my earliest sticker works. This sticker is a bit special. It comes from an old, hella-spooky, abandoned hospital that I explored with my girlfriend years ago. It was really neat and crazy, but as we went to leave, we walked headlong into a whole bunch of cops!
Apparently some nosy neighbours saw us go in (We weren’t exactly being sneaky, the place is abandoned, after all.) and called in the cops. The cops told us that we were “Very Lucky” that we had come out when we did, because they were about the release the dogs on us! (The dogs would of have bitten us!)
According to the officers, this rather extreme response was due to other explorers setting fires inside the hospital earlier, and they were worried that we were arsonists. The bottom floor did stink like smoke, and we saw a burnt door, it wasn’t clear, however, whether it was kids being idiots or homeless people being cold. Other than the burnt door there was certainly lots of other evidence of other explorers. The halls were graffitied, doors were unlocked, and one considerate explorer even left a flashlight at the front lobby for us to use!
At any rate, despite our protests that we were alone, two of the officers went inside with the two dogs to explore a bit themselves (The place was huge, it would have taken hours to check the whole thing.) while we waited with one? two? other officers. Big tough cops with big mean dogs went in, but giddy schoolboys came out! They were so excited about exploring the spooky space! The first thing out of their smiling faces was something like: “We saw blood all over the place!”.
My girlfriend and I shared a look, because we both saw the same “Blood”. Someone had spilled a dark, viscous liquid all over a counter top, but even we weren’t so spooked that we thought it was blood! I don’t know what it was, but it might have been some sort of medicinal sterilizer or machine oil or something. This was in the basement, and down there it was extra creepy because it was perfectly dark and very cold. Even though this was in summer and it was a nice day outside, The hospital was as cold and dark as the grave.
Thankfully, after this, they let us go, and my quick-thinking girlfriend said: “We just need to grab our stuff”. (which, of course, wasn’t our stuff, but stickers and a leather restraining strap from the hospital…) so we picked them up from where we dropped them, right by the door, when we first saw the cops.
And that’s the story of where this sticker comes from! I printed “POSTER CHILD IS SICK” and the Launch Escape design on the stickers using relief printing.
Anyway,
