Nuit Blanche- Broche Magique 1

Last years Nuit Blanche was fun!

This year’s Nuit Blanche was last Saturday. It was okay, I guess. I friend of mine described it as “Phooey Blanche”.

My excellent proposal for Nuit Blanche was rejected. But I decided to put some art up anyway!

The Nuit Blanche blurb reads:

“For one sleepless night, experience Toronto transformed by artists. Discover art in galleries, museums and unexpected places. From alleyways and demolition sites to churches and squash courts, explore more than 195 destinations. One night only. All night long.”

When I read it, I thought; “This is pretty cool, but hey, Toronto is “transformed by artists” every day of the year. In fact, you can find art in “unexpected places” 365 days a year, at any time of the day or night.

As I said in my proposal, “…many of my prior works are still existent and already fall into the Nuit Blanche Zones.”

In anycase, this week I’ll be posting the results of a email conversation between myself and the astounding Jason Eppink.

Jason has done many awesome things, but if you’re a fan of this site, then you’re likely most familiar with his Total Crisis Panic Button (I put one up in Toronto) and the jaw-dropping Pixelator:

Jason wrote me about this stencil, and we got to talking about faucets and spigots. Jason has kinda a thing for spigots. So we came up with a whole bunch of ideas, narrowed it down to the best 5, and this week you’ll be seeing the results of our labours.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that we got a whole bunch of help with the spigots! This one was sewn together by the excellent Ryan North.

This one probably worked the best. The spigot stuck to the parking meter really well, and for all I know, it’s still there! The others didn’t stick so well, because the epoxy I bought was weaksauce.

ALSO,

Here is a photo of the other work I put into Nuit Blanche. It’s a carnival style “poke your face through a humorous or strange scene and take a photograph” thing.

It also had pretty lights. The Raygun light blinked red and blue.

On the back was a request to post pictures taken onto Flickr with the tags “Nuit Blanche Posterchild”

But there aren’t any!

So, if you took your photo with my artwork, please post them up or email them to me! The best five will be featured on my website next week, so you’ll be internet famous. For what that’s worth.
