It’s a Forgotten Friday!

Oh my stars, I found this all dusty and forlorn behind my desk when I cleaned up my room.

It was an experiment inspired by my research into Katazome, using this stencil as a starting point.

I stretched a pair of nylons across a cheap, second-hand cross-stitching hoop, and then adhered the stencil to the nylon material with spray lacquer- cutting away the spine bridge once everything was dry enough.

Then it fell behind my desk and I forgot about it… for…


… about 2 years, 1 month, and 20 days.

Or 18,696 hours.

Or 1,121,760 minutes.

Or 67,305,600 seconds.

When I finally tried it, it worked ok… but I put the stencil in the cross stitch frame backwards, AND I used two layers of nylon (one would have been plenty, I think) and way too much lacquer- both of which left too much material for the spray paint to pass through easily.

That’s why it looks all faded and uneven.

It sorta looks good though…

…I like how it gives a weathered or “distressed” look instantly.

In/Version is a demonstration of the practice of these emerging artists: hungry for more, constantly feeding off each other, while very conscious of their place in Art History. Pop Art, Modernism, Art Nouveau, Surrealism, Americana, Psychedelia, Photorealism and Abstract Expressionism can be found within the work of these ten artists; an amalgamation of styles forcing new directions in art. Multi-media and multi-functional art and artists broaden their medium and environment, exhibiting the art of today.

See you there. You can recognize me as the bleary-eyed dude trying to score some free beers. Wait. Maybe there will be some free beers tonight? There wasn’t any free beers to be had at the last Show & Tell opening I was at, but you never know with art shows. If there are free beers, then I’ll be the dude with a twinkle in his bleary eyes and a free beer in hand, two in belly, and trying to score more free beers.

I love art shows. They are so good for desperately poor artists such as myself. They are kinda like weddings, where you get to drink and eat snackies for free- but it’s all karmic- because you get to pay it back when you go broke hosting your own show.

Hey, don’t get me wrong, I like all the art too!

I’ll be there free beers, or no free beers.

I cut this stencil ages ago- around the same time I cut this one, so I guess it was December of 2 years ago.

I quite like this lil’ stencil, but I somehow forgot about it- maybe because it’s so lil’? I found it again recently.

Spring cleaning, eh?
