Hey, you know who’s been really killing it on the streets of New York lately?

Our boy Specter has!

New York Post!

This one was a little bonus. It wasn’t really intended to be a part of this project, I just brought it down to get it up in New York in general. That’s why this piece doesn’t really own the billboard space like the other works- it was never designed for that space.

We got this up between beers and mexican food. While leaving the bar we were drinking at, we noticed a whitewashed billboard on the side of the bar. At this late stage of the game it was clear that no one was going to be coming to add anything to the billboard- and we knew these billboards wouldn’t last long in their inviting, lovely, ad-free state. As it turned out, it was even shorter than I expected- they didn’t even last the night! Apparently, the advertising company got their employees out of their weekends and organized them to work late into the night making sure every billboard was covered up with ads again. By mornings light, all the ads were back and all the art was gone.

In anycase, we saw this blank billboard, and decided to get this lil’ work up! It’s made with pre-pasted wallpaper, so all we had to do was dump some water on it’s backside, spread it around a bit until everything was nice and juicy, and put it up!

WHY NOT.

An interesting addition:

I’m a bad email/online-communication person.

This is no secret.

I get messages -I read them- and then I don’t answer.

I’m not proud of it…

but there it is.

I’m especially ashamed of not answering people who have written to me requesting more information for a high school or university paper. It’s very flattering- these are people who want to write a paper about my work or present my work to their peers. That’s awesome. I’ve gotten a lot of these requests lately, but most I haven’t answered…

and this is usually the case, sadly. These sort of requests get neglected by me more than any other sort of message because it takes more time to answer interview questions than to answer emails- even with copying-and-pasting the answers to commonly asked questions.

But while I was in the shower the other day I realized a good solution! Instead of answering these questions again and again on an individual basis, I’ll make them publicly and more easily accessible! You can find a lot of the answers to common questions on the site SOMEWHERE, but it would involve an awful lot of site-scouring.

So I’ve put it all on one page- the brand-new and exciting Media & School Resources Page!

It’s not a perfect solution- if you want to write a paper or prepare a presentation, you’re still going to have to sift through a lot of info, but that’s why it’s schoolwork, right? Also, I’m worried that this is a mega rude solution. I hope nobody finds this to be as rude an answer as I think they might, but I could see it being seen as pretty rude… you’ve carefully prepared some questions for me, and I silently point a stony and cold electronic-finger towards a webpage in response…

but, it’s better than silence, no?

And if you find the page is insufficient, if you find that there is no answer for your particular question, email me it! I’ll try to answer new questions quickly and add them to the page. Over time, it should be become a pretty comprehensive, crowdsourced interview.

Maybe you have heard the legend of the Civil Stag? The Big-Town Buck? The white-tailed deer with the unusual birthmark? It is prophesied that one day it will come into the city to run the cars back to suburbia, pied-piper style.

People will walk in the streets, and bicycles will fly in-between them. Longboarders will claim the parking garages as playgrounds. Dogs will frolic in the parking lots whist plants already begin to break the asphault underneath their paws. Everybody will begin to remember what it was like to breath oxygen instead of exhaust.

Ah well.

These are some of the positive spaces left over from when I cut my Buffingraff masks. I cut them very carefully so I could use them as stickers.
