These 3 are of a certain type of flyer box. The Other Type. Their kind have a metal sheet that divides the interior space vertically in two, so the planter boxes had to be built to accommodate that sheet. Hence the slot in the back of the planter box.

There’s a story behind this one.

While transporting it VIA longboard, I took a spill. The huge bag I had bundled the planter in ran under my front wheels and abruptly jammed them up. Everything went flying forwards- there was earth and flowers and street artists all over the road.

By that point I was close enough to my destination that I decided to scoop up as much soil as possible, replant the flowers, pick myself up and continue on. Even though the accident shook most of the plants of their petals, I think that there is a very good chance they will survive their sudden uprooting and hasty replanting- if less colourfully.

In any case, the location isn’t far from two plant shops, so I’m going to keep an eye on the lil’ skateboarders, and if they don’t pull through their accident, I’m just going to plant fresh, healthy, non-skater flowers in situ.

Hey, so I’m on Twitter now? If you want to know what going on with me RIGHT NOW, and MAYBE YOU DO, you can check it out here.

For example, yesterday I wrote: “Took a bail moving a big planterbox on my longboard. Blood, blossoms, and soil on the asphalt.”

Up to the minute newz.

The night of the storm, I had skateboarded across town to go to a house party. Of course, at that time, it was completely clean and calm. By the time I left, however, there was a thick layer of snow on everything- and the snow was falling so fast and thick that you couldn’t see 6 feet in front of you.
If you looked up or stopped squinting, the snow stung your eyes. Everyone was looking down, everyone was in a rush to get out of the storm- everyone was blind. The city was, in one sense, in chaos- those who couldn’t or wouldn’t allow the weather to change their plans were making a fine mess of things. In another sense, however, the city was exceptionally peaceful. Most people just let the snow have the night. For my part, I quickly accepted that trying to skate home was impossible.

It was still a long way home though, so the snow and I shared the night. I got a can from out of my bag and stared walking. I almost immediately realised that my travelling partner, the storm, was protecting me.
It was great. Beautiful even. The peace, the white noise of the wind blanketing the other noises of the city- even the hiss of the can. The sense of the world upturned, the sense of the other-worldly. The cars frozen and immobilized – buried.
The snow quickly covered me too, but I wasn’t as helpless as those big clumsy machines. I was a part of the storm, a stalwart snowman, drifting though the city, piling up in the alleys, catching tags on walls.
Here’s one of them.

Merry Xmas!

Today’s New Years Resolution is “Quit Drinking”.

It’s a fine resolution:

According to MADD; “in 2005, 16,885 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes – an average of one almost every half-hour.(In the U.S., According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)”

And according to MADD.ca; “On average just under 4 Canadians are killed every day and just under 190 Canadians are injured each day.(from impaired driving)”

I often drink to excess. In fact, like alot of people, I very recently drank to excess.

But the closest I’ve ever come to drinking and driving is skateboarding drunk.

I think that anyone who is considering driving while drunk should first spend an hour on a skateboard- Especially if they’ve never skateboarded before.

Hah, I just remembered- Don’t judge me too harshly, But about 4 years ago, while I was tipsy, I thought it would be a excellent idea to pick up my girlfriend and skateboard around with her in my arms. I informed her of my grand schemes by picking her up and skating off. For a few minutes everything was as magnificent as I had imagined it would be untill a hard piece of gum ran under my left wheel. The board stopped, and I felt a panic I’ve only felt a few times in my life.

You see, I’ve been thrown from my board many times before- I knew how much it could hurt, and I’ve been thrown while I was carrying less important things than my girlfriend, like a borrowed, expensive video camera- and I remember how the camera ended up.

The way I was holding her- I could see the arc she would take and I had visions of smashing her head on the ground.

Somehow I managed to reach up, cradle her head, and roll with the fall in such a way that I took all the impact and she wasn’t hurt at all! She wasn’t even pissed off at me!

This all occurred directly in front of her horrified friends, who, naturally, must of concluded that I was a god-damned moron.

Sometimes when you do something really stupid, you can’t say: “Well, I’m not the sort of person to recklessly put other people- especially the people I love- in danger.” You have to be judged by your one-offs.
Obviously, I never tried to do it again.

My point is you can make some bad choices when drunk. Don’t amplify the consequences by getting behind a big ol’ motor

p.s. To my Ex, If you read this, I’m sorry I tried to carry you around on my skateboard while intoxicated.

For them, I am claiming this Bike lane as a Bike/Longboard lane.

Although, knowing Toronto Longboarders, I should have claimed both lanes of the road as Longboard lanes.

You see, they have this thing called “The Boardmeeting”.

At this years Boardmeeting I was one of the 155 people who rode a longboard whilst wearing a shirt and tie. Together we used our inspirational, Ghandi-esque powers to peacefully take over Toronto’s streets.

You know- if Ghandi shredded hills instead of not eating.

He’d be all like: “Too slow, English!” as he zoomed by.

And the British would be like: “Whoooah! Radical! Indians RULE!”

And Ghandi would say: “Self-Rule, Suckas!”

To which the British would reply, simply; “Extreme!”

Seriously though, it was kinda like mass civil disobedience. It was the most massive way I’ve ever disobeyed civilly….

Skateboarding/Longboarding have a lot in common with street art. They are both ways of reimagining the city. Both change the way you look at the city, the way you shape it.

I think because of this a lot of street artists/writers are also skaters. I know Olmonster is. Maybe N4T4? Hammo? Dave the Chimp is undoubtedly a big time skater.

Hmm. Klutch? Jace? Adam Neate? David Choe?

Maybe I just want to think these artists skate. I feel like they skate.

Anyway it was like some crazy dream..
But why does the stencil look so crappy? Blame my crappy-ass paint.

In fact, blame all my artistic shortcomings on crappy paint.

It’s terrible stuff that sprays very unevenly and can stay tacky even when dry but it’s like 2 bucks a can.

In the winter, it sprays out like piss and takes 4 million hours to dry.

But it is about 2 bucks a can. I cannot stress this enough.

Also! Ebay! For Child’s Play!
