The Departed Astronaut 3

So you might of gathered by now that this week I’m posting the results of a stenciled animation. As far as I know, I’m the first artist to use this technique. I’ve seen lots of animations with paper puppets, but I’ve never seen stencil puppets before.

I got the idea from a friend who makes most excellent shadow puppets. We were talking and I said that her puppets were basically stencils- and she could spray paint through her puppets instead of light. Stencil puppets were born!

Today’s post illustrates my process. To do this yourself you’ll need a state-of-the-art studio that includes such innovative new equipment as “The Empty Pizza Box.”

Tomorrow I’ll post the actual animation.
