Why?

This winter has been very strange in my home province of Ontario.

Lakes that should have been frozen with a sheet of ice thick and strong enough to drive a truck out onto have instead been completely unfrozen.

Instead of ice fishing this winter, people have been using canoes. In January. January, on average, should be our coldest month!

The largest ski hill in Ontario had to lay off 1,300 staff this winter. Even their state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment couldn’t keep up with the warm weather.

Instead of winter sports, people have been golfing.

I heard on the CBC that Ontario farmers are going to have to use lots more pesticides this year to kill the insects that should have been killed by the winter cold.

They also mentioned that 2007 is projected to shatter all the records for warmth.

It’s time to start asking why. Why is there green grass under this pasteup in Toronto, in January?

The theme is “Why?”

The deadline is the 14th, which is why this update is coming today instead of Monday!
